Oil is vital for the smooth functioning of your car. The oil in your car must have the right viscosity and should be changed on regular intervals to keep it working in its best possible condition. As the oil passes through your car’s engine, it picks up debris and extra particles. If left unchecked and the oil too does not pick up such particles, these particles can seriously damage the engine. The solution of this problem is an Oil Filter.
An oil filter does exactly what its name implies: it filters the oil in the engine and removes the damaging particles before they can get a chance to have a go at the car’s engine or any of its components and damage them.
Your car can have an internal or an external oil filter depending on the make and the model of the car.
Many cars imported from Europe have been seen to use internal filters. These kinds of filters are installed into a sealed housing and are placed at the top of the engine.
External filters are most commonly used in the United States and are most commonly used in American cars and the cars imported to Asia. These filters can be found under the engine and are located near the front of the bottom.
Both external and internal filters are connected to a housing mounted on the engine, which requires a gasket to keep the engine oil from leaking out. Over time and excessive use, this gasket can crack or become brittle, allowing for an oil leak.
